The Association Between Adenovirus Infection and Irritable Bowel Syndrome: A Case-Control Study in Iran

Background: Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is a functional gastrointestinal disorder. The precise etiology of this disease not clear, but some reports have indicated the role infectious agents in incidence disease. Objectives: Because potential viruses disease, study aimed to evaluate and compare frequency colonic adenovirus infection both IBS control subjects. Methods: Stool serum samples were collected from 40 patients healthy individuals. Immunochemical detection (anti-adenoviral IgG IgM monoclonal antibodies) was performed using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) kits. Using quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (PCR), viral load evaluated stool samples. Data analyzed SPSS software. Results: Differences among mean concentrations anti-adenovirus controls statistically significant (P = 0.764 P 0.910, respectively).
